Raven Directional is owned by Ryan Starks, an expert with over 25 years of experience in the Horizontal Directional Drilling industry. With a small, dedicated crew, our owner can be on-site all the time, providing consistent and close oversight at every single job.

Our HDD services include:

  • Installation of steel pipe for gas pipelines
  • Line and grade boring for sanitary sewers
  • Directional and turnkey services for the electrical and communications industry
  • And more!

With a wide range of options designed to fit your individual needs, we can provide HDD services for projects ranging from large diameter pipeline crossings to small scale projects and road crossings.

Raven Directional’s three-step
process for HDD

Horizontal Directional Drilling is the preferred method for pipeline construction due to its minimal environmental impact and cost-effectiveness. Here is our three-step process for the HDD services we provide:

  1. Pilot Hole – Drilling fluid is pumped through the drill pipe to the drill bit where high-pressure jets and the bit will grind the soils ahead of the drill stem. This process can take several days depending on the condition of the soil.
  2. Pre-Reaming – The pre-reaming enlarges the pilot hole to a size sufficient to safely install product lines.
  3. Pipe Pullback – The final step is the pullback of the pipe within the pre-reamed hole.

Once we complete the HDD process, we remove all of our supplies, materials, construction equipment, and personnel from the site and ensure that proper clean-up takes place.

Why Use Raven Directional For Your Next Project?

Armed with broad expertise in horizontal directional drilling, we have the right equipment to get any project done correctly and we take the time to avoid existing underground utilities and prevent unnecessary damage.

Here’s what makes us the right choice when it comes to directional boring contractors in Abilene, TX and the surrounding areas:

  • Cost-effective: Our HDD services cost less, especially when there are high restoration costs.
  • Easier installation process: Our HDD services make for easier installation in areas with limited access (hills, ponds, roads, etc).
  • Less impact on the job site and public: HDD allows for trenchless underground installations with very minimal disruption to above-ground activity and surfaces.
  • Cleaner job site: Drilling is a messy business but our HDD services maintain a cleaner job site for your customers.
  • No deep excavations: HDD allows for the installation of conduits and pipelines without the need for deep excavations.
  • Reduced installation time: HDD also reduces overall installation time, which can save time in project scheduling.
  • Environmentally-friendly process: HDD is much more environmentally-friendly, with limited surface damage and a smaller environmental footprint compared to the traditional trenching process.
